Our youth today suffers from the continuing and constantly increasing rate of poverty in the country.
The picture above is a graduation photo of students from ParaƱaque National High School (PNHS) under the Special Curriculum which is also used by other science high schools. The students included in the photo are the cream of the top of their batch consisting of almost 2,200 graduates. Our country's increasing population is a bigger picture of a usual classroom situation in PNHS. A usual class should only consist of 40-50 students in order for every students to experience a grasp each lesson and for the class to experience fruitful discussions but surprisingly what is normal for our public high schools is to have an estimated 50-70 students per class and that worst thing is, it reached up to 80 students. The students in a special science classes enjoys the best of what our education can offer so why not offer it to all our youth. We must see the need of having a conducive classrooms, a good canteen, a friendly environment, in short the best facilities and equipments are needed to produce a big number of equipped and ready to serve students.
Our big population is not a disadvantage for our country because it implies manpower but in order for it to be efficient we must offer these people especially the young generation the best of what we could offer. if we are able to give the few a great services specially in education why not offer it to a larger population and if possible to the whole.
We are doomed but still there is hope.... The youth must also realize their role as part of the country. they must be trained to serve their selves to the country and they should accept the responsibility of changing the system and erase the continuing culture of poverty. Aside from good facilities and equipments, students should be with people of high moral and well trained teachers so that we could achieve our dream of producing top and efficient students.
Nowadays, we are facing poverty but we should create good students. Another problem is, only a few are enjoying the best schools because their are only few people who could afford to enter the top caliber schools in the country even the state universities are not affordable. As a personal experience, I am one of those people who are having a hard time to pay for a very large amount of tuition even if i am under scholarship(STFAP). But still we have another option, why not make an extra effort by becoming a working students or apply as an student assistant...
We are doomed but we could do something about it.
